The Coalition for Genocide Response is a membership organisation which is open to anyone who affirms the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (and related Conventions and Declarations) and our Membership Statement (below). We are independent of any government, political party, international institution or faith group.

Our members come from diverse backgrounds from all over the world, representing a variety of belief systems and philosophies. Our diversity is our strength – all united in the belief that human dignity is inviolable, and that mass atrocity crimes cannot pass unnoticed or without action.

We believe

  • Genocide, known as the crime of crimes, is among the most egregious violations of human dignity.
  • The Genocide Convention places upon states grave obligations to prevent and suppress mass atrocities, and punish those who perpetrate them.
  • The Genocide Convention is a key part of the international rights based order. It must be fully implemented whenever mass atrocities have taken place or are suspected.
  • The system created to respond to mass atrocities is failing. The time is long overdue to reconsider how to fulfil our solemn duties to protect those at risk of annihilation or atrocities, and pursue justice for those who have endured them.

Therefore we commit

To work together to ensure states honour their obligations under the

Genocide Convention.

What we do

Our vision is a world in which international law is used to prevent, suppress

and punish mass atrocity crimes.

Our mission is to unite all people of good will around the belief that the

Genocide Convention must be respected and implemented.

We will do this by:

  • Convening experts;
  • Developing and catalysing a network of supporters to combine and coordinate their efforts;
  • Proposing practical solutions to address suspected atrocities as they occur;
  • Commissioning and conducting research;
  • Proposing concrete steps to ensure an appropriate response to genocide and mass atrocities in the future;
  • Working to develop prevention mechanisms;
  • Working towards effective investigation and prosecution mechanisms;
  • Giving voice to the affected communities;
  • Working with the media, legislators and influencers to raise awareness of genocide related issues.
